Executive Leadership Fellowship

Applications for fellowships are accepted year-round due April 1 and reviewed by the Oversight ​Committee. 
Our Executive Leadership Fellowship provides grant funding for the continued education of executive level non-profit management and leadership. Ideal candidates include chief executives of a non-profit organization or senior-level administrators with primary responsibility for operational areas other than philanthropic management. 

Each fellowship must include a philanthropic educational component related to the administrator's area of responsibility—at minimum a half-or one-day local or regional philanthropic-focused educational session. 

​The Milton Murray Fund for Philanthropy Oversight Committee (the "Committee”) assigns a board liaison to work with each candidate to customize a program that best meets the candidate's experience and education needs. Candidates and the Committee must agree on the Track assignment prior to confirmation of Fellowship.  ​

The grant will reimburse up to $5,000 for the educational course and up to $2,000 for related expenses upon successful completion of the written report and personal presentation to the Committee.
Track I - Non-Profit Management Education

  • Short-term non-profit management course from an esteemed institution with a developed specialty in this content area. Examples include Harvard University, Stanford, Claremont Graduate School, and Vanderbilt University.

  • Candidate is responsible for applying for admission to institution.

  • Fellow will present a final report summarizing learnings to Committee upon completion of program.
Track II - Philanthropy & Management Education

  • A week-long fundraising class from the Madison Institute, Indiana University Lilly School of Philanthropy, or similar program.

  • A short-term education class focusing on non-profit management skills.

  • Fellow will present a final report summarizing learnings to Committee upon completion of program.
Track III - Non-Profit Executive Coaching

  • A year-long experience for executives and managers utilizing the services of a professional coach to enrich personal leadership skills for philanthropy and overall organization development.

  • Read three professional books on a select leadership topic.

  • Fellow will present a final report summarizing goals, learnings, and initial accomplishment resulting from coaching experience.
